iTunes U becomes dedicated app, hopes to be top of the class
Several major things happened at Apple’s huge education event today. iTunes U got a huge revamp and a dedicated app to boot. Originally offering students a way to access content, Apple is now allowing major colleges to put up for download full online courses.
Seen as Blackboard done right, Apple is truly moving to make the iPad the center of the future of the classroom. The new app has access to syllabuses and overviews of what the class offers along with the ability to view notes and other important information. Teachers can then push assignments directly to the new revamped iBooks where students can access and download the content.
The iTunes U application also supports course registration so no more having to go down to a college to register for classes. A huge relief that should be. The new app is currently available in the App Store for free in 123 countries. Many different colleges are supported by the app but Apple will be adding more support for other colleges in the near future.
