The big giant white Apple announced several products today, both in the software and hardware department and iOS 5.1 was one of those announcements. Now really iOS 5.1 isn’t an upgrade, its not a jump from iOS 4 to 5, but it will definitely make some peoples lives a whole lot easier. Especially the battery life on the 4S. This should be improved as well.
Overall iOS 5.1 doesn’t deliver much revolutionizing features but it does prove to be a worthy update. Stuff like the new way to access the camera, instead of double tapping the home button from the lock screen, it will always be visible. And to open the camera application you have to swipe it up. I like the animation and the motion, it feels a little more natural. But if you were used to just tapping it, it won’t open but it will bounce a little tempting you to swipe it open. Apple has also updated the camera application itself for the iPad, it looks a lot more stream lined, they got rid of the gray bar, now its a camera shutter key in the middle of the display. It also feels a lot snappier with taking photos so this should help with the awesome camera that is in the ‘New’ iPad.
Apple has also allowed the deletion of photos of Photo Stream, wasn’t sure why this feature wasn’t there in the first place but eh…. Now this next one is kind of crazy. If you have downloaded iOS 5.1 already, have you noticed the 4G icon? Well AT&T iPhone 4S owners will now have a fake 4G logo, looks like Apple lost a battle between them and AT&T to call the iPhone 4S a 4G device, and yes Apple knows its not true… AT&T just thinks HSPA+ is but it isn’t!! Come on!
Now the last feature to mention in this update is the addition of Japanese to the Siri book, looks like Apple is moving in a quick pace to add more and more languages for your best friend! iOS 5.1 is now available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch! Go download it and give it a try! Especially 4S owners because hopefully battery life is improved.
