ICS missing in action at CES, where was it?
CES 2012, the largest stage for consumer electronics, mobile phones, tablets, computers, just about everything. But no Ice Cream Sandwich? It really seemed odd this year that we saw just one mere device with Ice Cream Sandwich. The Asus Transformer Prime tablet, which was already on the market, but they we’re showing off their update of 4.0 on a Tegra 3 tablet. That’s it? Sure is.
Here at Gadget Experts and just about anyone from the technology blogging world had the same question, where was Ice Cream Sandwich? Did Samsung and Google jump the start with the Galaxy Nexus too soon? We think so. Recently there have been reports concerning the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus, that it would suddenly restart, odd right? But this happens will all new releases of any software. Ice Cream Sandwich maybe isn’t ready for the masses, but I think it’s ready for it’s debut. But that isn’t the reason for carriers to hold back from releasing Ice Cream Sandwich.
Carriers all have to do testing with certain devices to make sure that the device functions on their network. Its a huge part of a phone process from the drawing board to shipping the phone to the consumer, thats why phones usually have a one year life span before a newer model comes and replaces it. Manufactures need the time to make the device and then pass it through FCC and the carriers for their testing, its one massive operation.
We expect to see Ice Cream Sandwich devices start rolling out this year, first mostly updates to current Android devices, but then maybe in Q2 to Q3, start seeing devices designed with Ice Cream Sandwich in mind, that means no buttons! Hopefully Google can work out some kinks before a mass release of this, maybe even Android 4.1 will be out before any phone manufactures start mass producing their devices. Again, we hope to see Ice Cream Sandwich make it’s real debut for all manufactures at Mobile World Congress and as we approach MWC, we will start receiving all the great leaks of devices with ICS! (crosses fingers)
