Best Buy has been in and out of the news the past few months, passing the CEO scandal, bad press, and store closing, now we finally hear a bit of good news. The Wall Street Journal published a post on how Best Buy is taking in consideration the redesigning of their stores, getting some inspiration by Apple’s simple but very effective Apple Retail stores that do oh so very well.
They explained the idea as them trying to take less physical space, usually Best Buys are the size of Walmarts, they are looking to cut down on the size. They actually recently opened a brand new store near their Headquarters with this design, its smaller and a lot more organized. Instead of displaying every single gadget, they will make more room for people to interact with Best Buy staff to answer questions. They will only display the promotional items and hot items, not mouse pads.
One more feature taken out of Apple’s handbook is having some sort of technical bar, Best Buy is moving the site of Geek Squad to the middle of the store, they are calling it the Customer Kiosk. It where customers can bring in their tech and they will receive help on that certain item. Pretty similar to Genius Bar. This is a very interesting play, not sure if its worth it. But one thing is for sure, it will take a while for all of these stores to change to this new, updated look. Best Buy hopes this will help attract in more customers then before.
