Anonymous, the government really pushed their buttons

If you have been sitting under a rock for the past 24 hours, let us catch you up to speed. Yesterday, news broke out that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) shut MegaUpload, a popular uploading torrent website, down for Piracy Infringement. This move by the FBI rapidly turned sour for themselves, with a statement released by Anonymous  saying they will make their largest attack to strike back. They also announced their targets and said they won’t stop until they are down.

The following websites went down in the past 12 hours:

  • FBI.GOV
  • JUSTICE.GOV
  • UNIVERSALMUSIC.COM
  • RIAA.ORG
  • MPAA.ORG
  • COPYRIGHT.GOV
  • HADOPI.FR
  • WMG.COM
  • USDOJ.GOV
  • BMI.COM

All of those sites are either government agencies or content publishers. Anonymous really struck hard yesterday with either shutting down these websites or making them incredibly unresponsive. The government is really underestimating the capabilities of this group.

Anonymous will not stop, this is what it looks like. They also posted this official statement announcing what they did and also personal information of the people who are related to shutting down MegaUpload.
