Meet Mini MagSafe

The rumor of the new charging port for the iPhone has been around ever since iMore introduced the idea of a smaller charger port back in February. Some people said that it would be a smaller version of the same dock port we have, maybe a 14-pin dock connector or something along those lines. Now we are getting speculation that this new power port is much smaller than we think. In all of the leaks with photos of the alleged new iPhone, the port looks almost micro-USB.

There is a new report saying that the new port will be something along 9-pins only connecting. Also, there is a metal inner ring inside the charger port which we officially have nothing to report but if it’s metal, it may be safe to call it a magnet of some sort. We hope the MagSafe design will be ported from the MacBooks to the iPhones and eventually iPads. If Apple does put a MagSafe type plug onto the iPhone it will help with plugging in. It will simply click in to place and it will work in either orientation. Personally I try to plug my iPhone up sometimes not knowing which way it is. If it’s magnetic, my life would be much simpler when I’m tired and ready to go to bed!

No matter how many pins, this new connector is really bringing up a lot of talk about Apple changing their whole line. Of course Apple will probably offer a dock accessory if you have other accessories that use the current 30-pin dock connector. I hope to see the change in the upcoming iPhone! Let’s cross some fingers!
