So far I had the Droid X for a week, and its been pretty good. I have a few complaints, but other than that its all good news!
Lets start with:
Hardware:
The Droid X has a massive, and I mean MASSIVE 4.3″ screen with a resolution of 480×854, very tall which means less scrolling on long websites. Also it is a LCD TFT screen, so in bright light situations you are 100% fine. Inside this monster is a TI 3650 1GHZ Processor, in other terms this thing is blazing fast. Other websites did some speed tests with processors, and the one in the Droid X was faster than the other leading processor the Snap Dragon, I haven’t seen a test with the A-4′s on the iPhone 4. Also on the front of this device you got 4 hard buttons! YAY! I haven’t seen hardware buttons, since the last time I looked at my iPhone, which is sad to say about a few weeks ago! It’s been crazy! Phone after phone, and my phone number kept on changing, so my family were all confused! But enough of that!
Camera & Camcorder
The Droid X has a 8MP camera, and let me stop you right now, it is not about the megapixels of a camera. Its about the sensor inside. The sensor on this one seems fine, it takes 8MP photos, and good quality, but I believe the iPhone 4 has better color, and it also takes 720P HD video, which is not the best but for a cell phone camera….ITS GOOD
.
Software
Droid X packs Android 2.1 and a less annoying MotoBlur. It will have an over the air update in the latter part of this summer for Android 2.2 (Froyo) and Flash 10.1. But currently this uses Android 2.1 to the fullest, very fast, also the widgets run beautifully on this device, and all around it is a champ.
Browser
So lets face it. Every smart phone now is law to have a decent browser, and this one does not disappoint. The Android Browser is very fast, in tests I did it was faster than the iPhone 3GS, but that is year old hardware. I also put it up against the Samsung Captivate, the Galaxy S phone with the 1GHZ Hummingbird processor, now the Samsung won for one reason. The Hummingbird processor is way faster, it is still 1GHZ but it can do more calculations a second than any of the other 1GHZ mobile processors. So the Droid X was about 1-2 seconds behind the Captivate….NOT BAD..
Final Thoughts
So here is the decision time.
Let’s just say I was on Verizon, and the HTC Incredible was available, and so was the Droid X. Now I would get a little more power from the Droid X but I would get a smaller, thinner, and more compact body on the Incredible.
My ANSWER: I am not a fan of the giant 4.3 inch screen, but hey more screen real estate isn’t all its cracked up to be. Its about the pixels per square inch. Apple with their Retina display packed 326 pixels per square inch on the 3.5 inch display of the iPhone. Imagine what they could of packed in a screen the size of the Droid X, or even better the iPad in next April. They could put some serious pixels, into the computer world of HD monitors, INSIDE A MOBILE PHONE! Now think about it, not too long ago, people had those Nokia’s, those bar phones with only the black display that makes phone calls, and some even did text messaging. Now we are in the world of having pocket computers! I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple or any other company invent something that can transport us to anywhere. All joking aside, back to the real question. I would say the Incredible because they really did a great job on building that device.
So there you have it, sorry I went all history, but I got carried away
Here’s the video I did about the Droid X!
